To apply for a Virginia Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP), applicants must meet the eligibility requirements established by the Commonwealth of Virginia and demonstrate handgun competency through an approved firearms training course.

Generally, applicants must:

  • Be at least 21 years old
  • Be eligible to possess a firearm under state and federal law
  • Complete an approved handgun safety or firearms training course
  • Submit an application to the circuit court in their county or city of residence
